You can get certified to start working in the Healthcare Industry faster than ever!

Healthcare is important. It’s such a broad word it’s hard to narrow down everything it encompasses, does and defines. From mental health services, doctors’ offices and hospitals, to the act of checking in a patient – healthcare is not only a word, but also an action in so many ways.

For those thinking of joining the Healthcare industry, many might not know where to start. There are so many paths to take including a traditional 4-year nursing program but there are also many ways to obtain a certificate to get started. The need for healthcare workers is also more prevalent than ever, so getting certified to work in your industry of choosing is also very important for employers and those who need to start right away. Some certifications you can work to receive in less than 6 weeks are Certified Nursing Aides, Phlebotomists or EKG Technicians.

A certified nursing assistant helps patients with direct health care needs, often under the supervision of a nurse. CNAs work directly with patients and nurses, helping with the many physical and complex tasks for patient care. Phlebotomists play a vital role in the administration and management of blood draws for diagnosis, transfusion, and research purposes. Phlebotomists are trained to collect blood via venipuncture, finger pricks, or in the case of infants, heel pricks. EKG technicians are responsible for administering a variety of vital tests on a patient's pulmonary or cardiovascular system for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes.

Getting a certification through a 3, 6 or 8 week course is probably the best option when you weigh your needs to start working. Some Certified Nursing Aide certifications can be completed in as little as 2 and a half weeks! These classes will prepare you for your state exam which you can take after passing a exam from a training provider like Academy of Medical Training in Waterbury. Those wishing to begin as Phlebotomy Technicians will have to do 40 hours before taking their national exam. EKG Technicians can take training in 2 classes in 2 days and do not have to take an exam for state certification.

Northwest Region Workforce Investment Board can help get you started in a medical training class that would best suit your needs for your healthcare objectives – sometimes at no cost to you. If you’re interested in learning more, call us at 203-574-6971 or e-mail [email protected]
