We are currently pausing enrollment for some of our training programs for a short period. However, our WIOA and Career Connect information sessions continue to be held as scheduled. We encourage you to join these sessions to learn more about available opportunities, upcoming programs, and how to make the most of our resources.

Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama on July 22, 2014 to present an extraordinary opportunity to improve job and career options to workers and jobseekers. Through an integrated public workforce system that connects talent to businesses, there is also a greater opportunity to engage employers in developing the workforce for a regional economy.

For Employers:
- WIOA funds can be used on demonstrated effective strategies that meet employers' workforce needs including incumbent worker training, transitional jobs, on-the-job training and customized training.
-  Businesses under WIOA can collaborate with the American Job Centers, Community Colleges, and adult education providers to develop integrated education and training programs at the workplace to help employees gain basic & technical skills to get to the next level of work.

For workers/job seekers/youth (who qualify under WIOA):
- WIOA offers access to education and workforce services for individuals with significant barriers to employment—some veterans, individuals with disabilities, out-of-school and at-risk youth, and other populations—to help ensure that everyone has an opportunity to get a good job.
- Job seekers can be linked to employment opportunities, education, training, and support to succeed in the job market and increase wages.

To determine your eligibility for WIOA, we ask that you attend an info session by calling 203-574-6971 or e-mailing [email protected]. If you call ask to sign up for a WIOA information session. You will need a valid, accessible e-mail address and phone number to receive updates/information.

Adult Workers

The Job & Career ConneCTion is intended for use by students, teachers, counselors, job developers, job seekers, and anyone else in need of information on jobs and careers. It will guide you with a step-by-step process to explore the world of work: choosing an occupation, finding the appropriate education and training, and finding the right job.

The Job & Career ConneCTion:

  • Helps you identify occupations that may be a good match for your skills, interests, and personality
  • Provides detailed information on occupations
  • Helps you find appropriate education and training opportunities
  • Identifies employers who may hire people for applicable occupations

It will also provide tools to help you get the job that is right for you — including:

  • Help with writing a résumé
  • Getting through the job interview
  • Finding daycare for your children

The Job & Career ConneCTion also includes articles on relevant topics and links to other valuable websites to help you prepare for and get that perfect job.

Disability Resources

The American Job Center assists jobseekers by:

  • Identifying community resources targeted to people with disabilities
  • Bringing the resources of the American Job Center Network to community events
  • Coordinating public workshops on disclosure, reasonable accommodations, work incentives and job seekers’ rights and responsibilities
  • Outreach to in-school and out-of-school youths with disabilities
  • Guidance on SSI and SSDI work incentive programs to help job seekers maintain benefits

  • Career Exploration and One-to-One Assistance
  • Career Readiness Training and an Individual Work Plan
  • Job Development Assistance
  • Referral to Benefits Counseling
  • Job Retention Services
  • Supportive Services and referrals to Education, Government and Community Services

Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers Program

Federal regulations mandate that Job Centers/American Job Centers provide the same level of services to Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers as are provided to Non-Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers.

The goal of the program for eligible, low-income Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers is:

  • To help those who wish to leave agricultural work prepare for and obtain alternative employment; and
  • To improve the living and working conditions of those farm workers and their families who prefer to remain in the farm labor market
