We all know the mixmaster, but do you know it's got a future ahead of it?

There’s a good chance that if you’ve had to travel anywhere in Northwest Connecticut you’ve used 84 West to get there, which also means you’ve traveled over the mixmaster in Waterbury. The mixmaster opened to the public in 1968 and has been through many minor and major rehabilitation projects since. At its inception the project it was a modern marvel of engineering. When originally constructed, it was supposed to accommodate 100,000 motor vehicle trips a day. Currently, there are about 190,000 motor vehicle trips a day!

With future upgrades and repairs needed year to year with the mixmaster, the construction industry will need workers who are trained and ready to learn about heavy highway construction. A trained heavy highway construction worker needs math skills and knowledge of heavy equipment operations, safety, earthmoving, hand tools and traffic regulations. Non-building construction is so important because the roads we travel on need to be safe and they constantly need improvements.

Working on the mixmaster would be a rewarding career to local residents who can point out and say they have worked on such a huge landmark in the city of Waterbury. Continuous upgrades will make this a stable career and give residents an opportunity to be part of this enormous project!
